"Well mainstream rock too"
thats what pop music is
rock was pop back then
"but musically they coulda been better."
dont understand this. instrumentally yeah they weren't the greatest but they managed to constantly write interesting, compelling songs while progressing pop music.
theres only one badn that wrote as good a pop album as these guys and its the beach boys

i agree w/ nullpoint i dont think there's such a thing as grading a band objectively via their influence/importance or whatever. i think its easy and correct to call the beatles the most influential and important band ever but i think "greatest" really is a matter of subjective opinion that can't be decided upon objective merits like influence
that said i'm of the opinion that the beatles were not only the most important band ever but also the best, i.e. my favorite

i think greatest is "most influential and important"
guess its just diff definitions of greatness
if you don't like the beatles whatever but yeah greatness is undeniable

There's nothing like blasting Pet Sounds in my car on a nice sunny day.
10 bucks for a mono/stero bundle, with like 20 pages worth of liner notes.
What a bargain
