Sucks it had to end like this.

I feel sick about this.
Even though most of us hated this album, it was still a billboard #1 and they're still a somewhat relevant band. This is a huge surprise and hits me harder than many of the recent musician deaths.
I wonder if we can read anything into his strangely antagonistic comments regarding the album's backlash - could point towards a certain state of mind. I always thought they were a bit surprising

First thing I thought about was my old history teacher and how he told me a few years back the band helped him through a rough time as a kid and later the death of his father. I can't imagine how he feels right now.

Doesn't really matter if we liked this album. I know for a fact Hybrid Theory and Meteora were huge to like 80% of the users here

R.I.P., jamming "in the end" on repeat. never cared about this group but that song's actually great

They're a part of our musical DNA even if we moved on. They'll always be a part of our development.

it really re-contextualizes all the hubbub around this album, doesn't it

If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do

I wonder if the band will be able to move forward without him, either way they'll never be the same
I just can't believe that this might be known as their last album

yeah it sucks that this is certainly going to be known as a sign of decline rather than as some sort of Blackstar
fuck man.

Was hoping for a triumphant comeback because I know they have it in them
Maybe this'll push them into something amazing musically?

they should take a break if they are going to continue

Nah, the band is finished, they're not gonna carry on without Chester. It's like if Deftones lost Chino.
Jesus Christ this feels so surreal.

This only makes the one good song on the album (the self-titled) more devastating

One thing about this band is that they were surprisingly focused on each member being an integral part of the band - for example the logo with six sides to represent each member etc. This news must be absolutely devastating to the rest of the band, I can't see how they would continue.
It's a similar situation to the Beastie Boys (obviously I'm not comparing the two at all, just talking about how the band themselves would feel about the situation).

Talking to myself, the self titled and sharp edges were the only good songs of this record. Dude I even rated with 4 albums like living things and I started to appreciate more MTM and ATS but this wasnt a good album as a whole.
