Well seeing how their last album didn't sell as well as their other stuff they must've panicked and hid behind every pop artist on the Billboard charts.

Well like I said I haven't listened to this. It's just that they've been accused of being "sell-outs" since Minutes to Midnight in 2007 if not before and then again with pretty much every subsequent release so it's gotten tiresome to hear the phrase being thrown about so willy-nilly. But perhaps this case is genuine. I won't know myself for a good while yet as LP hasn't been priority listening for me in over a decade.

Listened a second time to this as objectively as i can.

So yeah, everyone's pretty much jumping a little bit too much on the hate bandwagon. As someone else said - Linkin Park is an easy target.

This is by no measure a good record, but a 1.6 rating indicates an absolute abomination of an album, and compared to the shit that's out there this is pretty average. It's just a boring, dull and lifeless mainstream pop record for the most part, but it's still better than some of the things out there.

I know scoring is subjective but when I think 1s I instantly think shit like brokeNCYDE and Blood on the Dance Floor which absolutely should not exist

1.5 is like Bieber and Jonas Brothers which is bad but there's a place for it, just far the fuck away from me.

This cannot be as bad as any of that, surely?

it's not, safe for maybe 2-3 tracks that were outright full garbage.

Well now I feel I have to check this out.

2 seems like a fair score if this is really as bad as everyone is saying. 2 to me is like still shitty radio pop but at least competently put together and produced like Rihanna or Ed Sheeran

Yeah, I think this is better than Ed Sheeran, can't comment on Rihanna since I haven't heard any of her albums.

If you liked "Leave Out All The Rest", "Shadow of the Day", or "Powerless", then I'm not sure how this is much different. The pop influence is turned all the way up, yeah, but they've had at least a couple songs just like these on just about every one of their post Meteora albums.

Powerless is better than anything on here, but there are some good tracks. Nobody Can Save Me, Halfway Right and t/t are better than the rest.

shadow of the day is just straight up U2 pop, complete with the shimmery guitars and everything. however that was still more memorable and melodically pleasing than the stuff on here, and the instrumentation worked better in the context of the song than what they bring here. this is just insanely dull in both instrumentation, vocal melodies and lyrics. and chester sounds awful since when he isnt modulated to death his voice still breaks a lot which doesn't work in a poppier environment

Chester's voice doesn't fit straight out pop. It's too plain and the edge he has on the more visceral, energetic songs gets lost for me.

Leave Out all the Rest and Shadow of the Day are some of my favorite LP songs and Powerless is one of the band's best closers and I still hate this

Those songs all have actual hooks and decent lyrics tho. Like, they have actual substance and meaning, however superficial. These songs are meaningless, unmemorable, generic bs.

I actually like MTM a lot, though it is my least favourite LP album of the ones I've heard in full (still haven't bothered to listen to this beyond the singles).

Yeah, "Leave Out All The Rest" and "Shadow of the Day" are much better songs than anything on this record. I don't really care what you want to label the music. It's just easier to say "this sounds like all the generic pop on the radio right now". But if it makes you feel better I can say "this sounds like all the generic music on the radio right now". Lyrics have never been incredible with Linkin Park but this stuff is especially trite. The instrumentals are lifeless compared to their earlier stuff. Most importantly, it's just not that interesting to listen to. Just because something is pop doesn't mean it can't be good or fun. This is neither.
