I can't even make it through this album. It's a bit of a bummer... considering how much I like this band.

I’m with you, I could barely make it through. And I’ve always been a big Incubus fan (even liked If Not Now When for the most part).

I think what pains me most is there are some moments of brilliance on here, but it's overshadowed by the bullshit

Man I think there's potential here. If it wasn't for the god awful production you could save most of these songs with the exception of "Loneliest", which is pretty terrible by itself and only made worse by having the cringe inducing "When I Became A Man" right after. Then "Familiar Faces" enters the picture with (possibly) the worst performance from Brandon.
The most energetic tracks "No Fun", "Love In A Time Of Surveillance", "Glitterbomb" and "Throw Out The Map" are by far the better songs. The acoustic version of Nimble Bastard is pretty good too.

I remember listening to this when it came out and I didn't think it was terrible, but I thought the songwriting was pretty mediocre. Even "If Not Now, When?" has better hooks and better riffs on some songs, so by that alone I could tell the songwriting was weak. I would have rated this a 2.5 then.
Well, I have the same impression now but I have just realized how awful the production really is. It sounds flat and sterile, with no headroom whatsoever. It brings this down a notch. Not to mention Brandon sounds pretty bad, almost bored half the time and even out of key on some parts. Listen to Familiar Faces starting the 2:41 mark. Just awful.

Is this super bad? i've never listened to it, i really digged the chill sound of If Not Now

The production/mixing, for a band that no doubt has access to resources and producers, is just unbelievably poor. I can’t believe the band actually sat down and thought this was a good representation of what they were trying to achieve. The guitars sound completely buried at times, like he’s playing under a blanket, and the drums sound a muddy mess, so much so that the snare and bass drum sound interchangeable. It’s not even about being ‘heavy’, because a lot of this band’s best work wasn’t, but this sounds like they were under some sort of contractual obligation to push this out on account of how phoned in and sterile it sounds.
