As much as it doesn't matter, the songs Georgia's written that seem to be about Wil are so interesting:

"Tell me you never want to see me again

Then keep showing up at my house

Tell me you'll never be in love again

Now you're walking around with someone else

If I was hungry, then you were starving

And he was so sick, but you were dying

Now tell the dead man that you're the one dying"

the more i learn about Wil the more he seems like an immature manchild with a victim complex.

More I learn about him, the more I like him. He's never seemed like a dishonest person and often acknowledges that it's his own flaws that tend to spark his problems. I think he's self-absorbed and overly romantic, and I can imagine being around him would be tough, but he's pretty honest about this all, which is what's most charming about him as a writer.

I get that, though, he does seem immature, and he does seem to have a bit of a complex.

i already knew these things but its just become more obvious. i dont really admire him like i used to. i dont dislike him either though (gotta be clear about things like this when fanboys like deathschool get a whiff of criticism).

I understand, then. I sorta idolise him more as a performer than a person for sure. Can also relate to a lot of what he sings, for better or worse.

If a guy sang shit like that to me I'd be like uhhh.

Eitherway, album rocks. Band can do no wrong beyond some lyrics.

fantano reviewed this and all the comments are just asking about the new gorillaz album

edit: okay watching the review now and it's surprisingly relevant to this conversation as fantano gives a bit of judgment on wil's character himself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1PdNaCJ_M8

It is an interesting aspect of their music. I absolutely love how flawed Wil is, often self-aware and sometimes (I'd argue) not, but it all comes through in the music and makes it interesting. Wil kind of appears just to stream his consciousness and thoughts, regardless of whether they are logical or sane, which is one of the things that makes their music so enjoyable and interesting and relatable in a way other music that somewhat filters what its giving you can't be. Interesting how fantano read some of the awkward lines here as unenjoyable, but to me thats just Wil and it their work wouldn't be as honest and straight with you if their stunning lyrical lines weren't mixed with some rough / awkward / slightly clumsy ones (linking to the stream on consciousness feel - it wouldnt be there otherwise)

I actually tweeted at Fantano half a dozen times on twitter with great tenacity to listen to this album, who knows maybe I (and a couple other cats) inspired the review?

I really don't think he knows what a "lad" is though ahah

Yup haha, some of his comments on the song reflected an odd interpretation consequently I think

Yeah, he gave a fair review, but his comments on Wil's characters were weak as a result of his weird interpretation of Death to the Lads. A little surprised at his view on It Kills Me to Have to be Alive, too. It's for sure melodramatic as all hell, but it's too personal, and not descriptive enough of circumstance to across as woeful of "first world problems" to me.

im not a fan of that term in general. if someone throws a tantrum over their parents not getting them the new iphone for christmas, that would be a good time to use that phrase. but a lot of the time its used to belittle the struggles of a person who you know nothing about.

also yeah i think his criticisms on Death to the Lads are unfounded. Wil seems like the least snooty and judgemental person on the planet. and i dont really see it as an "ode to growing up" or "getting more mature" either, not sure where he got that. i think he did make a lot of valid points though.
