Depends if it works as a deterrent even 20% of the time?

It is branded as an extra deterrent but I don’t know if that’s how it pans out.

‘No proven or disproven effect’

I will change my political stance back to neutral on this subject

I’m actually a no when it comes to capital punishment but I’d be in favour of a far less lenient even brutal judicial and prison system to be honest.

Plus when it comes to deterrents it has to be things that hit hard.
For youth offenders no social media, no consoles, no phones, no laptops, no hanging around in groups of more than 5, school attendance to be compulsory unless medically signed off. No access to funds of more than a bare minimum.

They’d soon start to fear the consequences if they were prevented from having all the unnecessary shit.

You'll prob live through such yeah

Internet is such a massive change but it only became apparent in phases/shifts just how big a change it was going to be, my 'reward response' and attention span are forever changed - it has gameified life...which I love and hate in equal measure, and personal branding to strangers on social media is not just encouraged but expected which is fascinating but incredible pressure on people, esp kids/teens

I'm on sputnik/Spotify all hours so I can't say I don't enjoy modern distraction/unnecessary shit

As a kid I was obsessed with computer games, now I don't touch them because they're too intense a distraction. Internet needs to remain in your life so it's hard to not sink back in to gameification and obsessive behaviour.

its pretty interesting the rate of technological advancement in the modern age and how much we take for granted. i feel that many of the 'problems' related to the internet etc. aren't so much a problem with the technology itself, but a problem with the effect such large-scale adoptions of new innovations in such a short amount of time can have on a society, maybe something that we haven't prepared enough for.

I have a lot of friends approx 5 years older (mid forties) and a lot of friends 5-8 years younger (early to mid thirties) and the difference between the two now due to the Internet is massive.

The older set have no or very little social media presence - the younger lot massive personal branding on FB and instagram. Huge difference with just a 10 year age gap.

The internet, a wondrous thing for used for porn and the spread of poison.
I’m constantly on it though like a prat.

One of my mates who is 31 puts his phone in a box when he walks in from work. Spends time with the wife and their son.
You have to respect that. There is hope.
