Maybe I've got a different idea of what 'raw' means but I don't find this record all that raw sounding, even in comparison to Wrongdoers.

The album is growing on me for sure after a couple of weeks listening, I still find the previous one had an almost fun edge to it on some tracks (If you've got it at five..., Hive minds etc), this is more serious sounding, kind of bleak (not that it's always a bad thing). For me the album closer doesn't do as good a job as the one on Wrongdoers but Polar Similar is still an excellent release though, third in a row from the almighty Norma Jean.

Trephine is right, this is a bleak, grueling, tolling listen. Wrongdoers is like a party. And the closer there PUMMELS YOU. closer here grew on me a bit tho

Too true. I'm having a hard time thinking of an album where I like the production more.

Vocal production is everything but on point imo. Mainly because of the effects on the cleans. Also the guitars and drums converge in a muddy mess where the details in each instrument could've easily been clearer. Maybe that's the point tho?

I could see those criticisms if you're wanting an ultra-slick production like you would hear on a Periphery album or something but I love how this straddles the line between "raw" and "slick" really, really nicely.
