u have to be either pretty fucking stupid or super biased and dishonest not to recognize how pop is stigmatized in society

i mean, it's literally the go-to genre when people talk about "bad music" and how "this generation is the worst ever"

Pop is a fine genre just like any genre out there. There's tons of trash in every genre and that's to be expected.

Wait I have not said she is a garbage artist, I've only heard like one song , that I didn't really like but it wasn't garbage

'Also the beatles were overrated af'

they may be overrated (death to abbey road), but they made Revolver which is one of the best baroque pop/chamber pop albums ever made and everyone knows that baroque/chamber pop is the greatest genre ever made so...

there's the same ratio of 'garbage' to good stuff in pop as any other genre, the only reason why it seems otherwise is because pop artists in general get more exposure

Chart pop is shite.

You've had your brains wired to digest it. It's reduced, homogenised, bland fodder.
It's this album.

yeah, kinda like judging grunge or rock (or metal, for the even more naïve) by listening to nickelback lmao

I disagree with this, honestly. examining the top 40 there has been a lot more bad than good releases in the last few years, for whatever reason. While I agree pop is badly stigmatized and theres a lot of enjoyment and legitimate art to come out of it, the quality that the top 40 reflects proves it IS a genre with just a bit more bad than good unfortunately.

Stigmas come from SOMEWHERE.

Asdfp my analogy was other genres are more resilient to that argument - if KILL has Death and Metallica albums at a 5 but gives this year's Vektor a 2/5 no one says 'man you don't thrash, you don't understand nuttin'

But with pop for some reason there's zero resilience and you always get this lame 'you just don't know how to let down your hair, you hate all pop and hate life' rhetoric

Here's why Pop is hated so much.
In rock/metal any genre really you can't get away with making shitty music, I mean you technically can but you certainly won't be as popular or as recognized for doing it as you would be if you made shit "pop". You can fart on a track, call it pop, make a vanilla sex video and it will get millions upon millions of views and radio play to the point where it pisses everyone off so they can't stand it and have to hate it.

or maybe it's because the people who criticize pop are literally clueless about the genre and they're super biased n shit, and how painfully obvious it is?

is zak not commenting on this thread or something? u managed to block him? u use addblock plus on him or sumthin?

People are most clueless about the genre actually called 'pop' because it's literally played everywhere all the time and is so popular and mainstream everyone can't avoid listening to it? Great argument

'if KILL has Death and Metallica albums at a 5 but gives this year's Vektor a 2/5 no one says 'man you don't thrash, you don't understand nuttin'''

idk doof i have a lot of highly rated metal and evn a bit of highly rated thrash and i get criticised for 2.5ing vektor

'But with pop for some reason there's zero resilience and you always get this lame 'you just don't know how to let down your hair, you hate all pop and hate life' rhetoric'

i mean it's kinda true but that whole kind of idea is really a reaction to people who seem to hate all pop, and also tbh i have lots of highly rated and low rated pop too so it depends

I mean pop has become so reliant on image, marketing schemes and money that less and less artists care if they create something that is actually worthwhile.
