I think Melancholie^2 is better but I don't think this is a let down. It's just different. Hopefully we don't have to wait 8 years for his third album.

I enjoy this significantly more than Melancholie and for the life of me can't figure why that album is so revered. The songwriting here is brilliant and wonderfully cohesive. "Womb of Emptiness" is as good as melancholic black metal gets.

3.5 max. like, it doesn't really try and do anything out of its comfort zone but it just does what it tries to do well. it's not a spectacular album but it's more consistent in quality than melancholie was hence the higher rating.
