i'm currently on track three and i think i'm digging this more than to be kind, which says quite a lot
|
| |
Artuma it's a big drop in quality though after track three. Certainly a big change in style, at least.

Does the first incarnation of Swans go from 1983 to 1996?

about that, lineup wise. FWIW I always think of swans in three different eras.
|
| |
1982 to 1997 according to this new obscure website i found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swans_(band)

Swans changed their sound a good amount. They transitioned away from no wave/industrial (1982-86) with Children of God in 1987, becoming more melodic and gothic in my personal favorite era of the band (album CoG, The Burning World, White Light..., Love of Life, Various Failures), then a few years later returned in 1995 and 1996 with the more abstract and lengthy releases The Great Annihilator and Soundtracks for the Blind. Swans then went on hold, with Gira and co. playing in the lighter Angels of Light project until the late 2000s, then returned to continuing the abstract and lengthy Swans stuff in 2010, but pretty different to anything they did before, with more modern instrumentation and production techniques.
