You simply can't go wrong with this band.

You really can't, they're the kind of band that makes me excited every time they put out something new. I hope they go in a different direction from the orchestral ambience they've been doing so much of after Wars.

Man they did it so well here. Though I agree, I hope for something a tad different next time.

I really like Messe and this, Terrestrials was pretty good too. I just want to hear them explore more sounds and musical styles.

As long as it's less ambient, less emphasis on orchestral elements and less uneventful than the album before this, I'm fine with it. A more eventful continuation of this one with more vocals, new sounds and twists would be appreciated.
Also, can't stress enough how good Ecclesiastes is. What a song.

Cromagnosis is one of the best Ulver tracks ever. If only it had some Garm vocals...

AOTY for me right now.

They should go industrial black metal next album tbh

Would be interesting for sure.

lol they're never going back to black metal, fortunately.

how do you know?

Garm doesn't even like [black] metal anymore from what I've read so it would be a massive u-turn.

This band kinda specializes in u-turns, I'd expect anything for what they do next. Except metal. They're done with that, and it's fine that way. They revolutionized the genre, made 3 incredible game-changing albums, and never returned to it again. Now that's style.

I wouldn't say they specialize in u-turns. They've always progressed in some way or another, whereas a u-turn could suggest some sort of regression, which I think a return to black metal would be (definitely from Garm's point of view).

Each of their albums since moving away from bm have been pretty different though, but yeah maybe not a u-turn each time. There is a vaguely sensical progression happening I suppose, the only real similarity across it all all is how atmospheric each album always ends up sounding.

Record is still thoroughly intoxicating and is up there with Schoolboy Q, The Body and Katatonia as one of my favorites for the year.

Haven't listened to this in a while. The last third of this album is stunning but the rest of it never really clicked as much as I wanted it too. Still great overall though.

it feels like a concept album without words.

I think I prefer Messe and Roses to this, which is still a really great album, but I'd like to hear them go in a new direction in the future.
