That thing about context of him passing fuelling the rave reviews... of course there's the fad factor, this unexpected turn of events was unavoidably going to raise much more attention to the album. But then again, the context does provide an additional thematic layer to the album.
For instance, when I first got through the whole album, I was somewhat let down by the sentimental and almost light-hearted song that ends the record, "I Can't Give Everything Away". After the news broke... it makes so much more sense, and the feeling of clinging to hope - desperately, even - becomes so apparent. Suddenly, the song is a genuine tear-jerker.

This is so much better than I expected. Sad Bowie won't be around to see the reception to this, even if it is probably getting drummed up more than it would have had it not been for his tragic passing.
