new one is better but this is excellent too

I adore Bark too but this one hits harder, every tune here is just so punchy, the lyrics are also a bit more direct.

i like bark more because it feels more focused and nuanced... And the production is some of the best i heard in years. This band grew a lot with each of their releases.

Each release has been a really cool step forward, but Get Disowned still comes out on top

Get Disowned is just so raw and honest. Not that this isn't but just nothing compares.

I love each album for different reasons

I keep thinking those are skulls on the cover

So true! The image shape is similar to Hell or High Water's, which doesn't help

I’m glad p4k gave the right Hop Along album the best 200 albums of the decade nod.

"On Painted Shut, the breakthrough album from her band Hop Along, Quinlan is on glorious display; her voice scrapes viscerally against the word “picture” in “I Saw My Twin,” the phrase “to post a motivational video” is briefly lent the velocity of an asteroid barreling toward earth in “Happy to See Me.”"
Of course those were the two moments p4k shot for. Glad this was featured

That part in Happy To See Me really is just extraordinary and so wonderfully inexplicable
|
| |
Agreed, but there are two options here:
Pick the line from that part that totally gets to the happy-go-lucky ironic core of what Hop Along are all about: people of the world, nobody loves you half as much as I'm trying to
Pick the line that fits Pitchfork's snoozy zeitgeist: to post a motivational video [on Youtube]
I ain't buying it

@bony except BYHO,D is better in every way.

To be fair if they really understood this band they'd put Get Disowned in the list
|
| |
Like that would ever happen. Bark Your Head Off is probably a safer bet in many ways tbh, but this is so good that I'm more pleasantly surprised it came out on top than disappointed Get Disowned didn't make it

is people still going to p4k to check out/find new music? god, it feels like ages past since bitchfuck was actually the who's in/who's out of the indie/alternative scene.
|

pitchfork actually still covers cool, smaller, less popular artists. they just seem a lot more likely to champion the obvious/super popular stuff nowadays while dishing out yr typical 7.something to all the actually good stuff.
tbqh i feel like sput's end of year lists have been pretty obvious as well recently. remember when we used to have like kidcrash and off minor in the top 10? even julia holter in 2013 was pretty leftfield. now we just got the same predictable picks as every other site

hype culture, my dude. the great homogenizer.
It's a very real thing, people who say otherwise are part of it.
