Well you can sort of count a few things as solos, like the talk box part in Jambi which I think sounds cool as hell.

I wanted all of their older stuff before getting this since Vicarious didn't impress me too much, so I went with Undertow last time I bought a CD. Now I don't have this or Opiate (or Salival, but that doesn't really count), so 10,000 Days will be my next purchase, but I'm trying to save money for the time being. Damn minimum wage.

Its a cool effect but not really what I consider solo material.
And yes, do buy when sufficient sums are in order.

Well the guitar is turned up really loud in the mix and nothing else is really happening, so I think it's technically a solo, even though it's not like shredding or anything.
I bet Tool would sound really cool if they had a shred solo in a song or two. I wouldn't want them to make it a regular thing, though.

Wow. I liked all the other Tool reviews. this one, is disapointing. yes, Adam and Justin dont get near enough credit. they are amazing. but just putting down danny and maynard is not quite their. Maybe your not a drummer, but danny is amazing in this album, he even pushed on lateralus drumming. all this stuff is crazy. fills reused? not too often, and if they are. they are good enough to be reused. bashing on rosetta stoned?and blame hoffman. did you even listen to the end? it gives the Reason for rosetta stoned...so its necessary... maybe you just listened to it a few times. if you look past the different singing style in the beginning and really look into the song. wow. very creative and very good. and again reusing guitar rifffs? yes there are similarities. but, hes adding on new things. there are so many new things in this album, every once and awhile its nice to hear some modified riffs. and right in two, dang that is a really good song. its a little differnt from regular tool, but its an amazing build up, with really good lyrics.. i dont belive the bashing lyrics. yeah they are a bit differnt and more straight forward. but. they really do mean somthing. they are very good. not "Dodgy" at all. i think you need to sit down and really listen to the album, i had many same thoughts. but they pass after a few good listens. phenomenal record.

The fans of this band scared me off them for a number of years (around grade eight is when I heard of them & now in university getting into them), but when you get past the goth kids, and pick up a album, this becomes everything you want in a band. Not their best album (not even top three), but good nonetheless, good review also.

me neither, but then again Maynard is a Musical Genius. This is the CD that got me into Tool, but it is the only one i have heard, other than a few songs here and there

Awesome album. Good review.
Man... two filler tracks in a row. That was painful. I kept waiting for a song to erupt from Lipan Conjuring, but instead it just went to yet ANOTHER track. So saddening. I agree with the beginning songs being awesome, though I also quite liked Right in Two.

Great review, very well written, even if I disagree with you on some points.
I actually quite like Rosetta Stoned, although I definitely didn't at first. I like Right in Two as well.
I don't think Lost Keys is so bad, I kinda like the ambient nature of the song. Lipan Conjuring is pretty...meh...though.
All in all, good album, good review.

Yeah, that actually really surprised me. Considering all the rumors, I'd have thought people would still be ranting about it.

i dont get that much out of this album, probably their weakest release imo. And not worth the long anticipating wait.

only song before this CD came out was Schism, and it was alright, this is better IMO

Does anyone else agree with me in that Justin Chancellor has the best bass tone ever on this album? It's just so thick and beefy. I can't get enough of it.

yeah but usually the first album that you hear from a band, a majority of the time, that album will be your favorite. And if im not mistakin, this is your first Tool album..right? My first was Aenima, and thats pretty hard to top.
