+1 with Mongi

this is their most organic sounding album

it's like they went into a big room, set up gear, and recorded the album in one take

I know it's sweet. The way everything kind of echoes is amazing.

Ye you guys are right. That is excatly the strength of this album, the dark melancholic, organic feel throughout. I think that 'Lie' would feel like a crappy popsong without this recording/production style, yet it's good this way.

Yea it's probably one of my least favorite but Lie rules. Nothing but smooth sailing after Lie. Scarred is by far the best epic I've heard from them.

The Mirror is so beyond perfect it's crazy. Definitely the song I listen to the most here.

I've always really enjoyed Lie, the main riff is kickass and LaBrie channels Hetfield hard on this chorus m/

Listening to this reminds me just how much of a letdown the single they released for The Astonishing is.

Well it's a letdown from this, of course

When I look at the bigger picture, The Astonishing actually sounds like it would be a letdown from pretty much anything, but I'm still trying to figure out whether The Gift of Music (I feel discomfort just writing this title) surpasses the music on the self-titled or not

Nah, just honestly modern DT being modern DT to me, which is a big no-no.
