I don't know if it's because I couldn't have possibly had lower expectations or what, but I really don't think it's that bad. On their last two albums it felt like they were overthinking trying to be a radio rock band in some sections and trying to be a metal bands in others. I feel like with this album just seems a lot less forced in that regard. Phil still can't sing, and then insisting on making songs with so much singing in it still ill-advised. I saw them live a few weeks ago with In Flames and it was painful, especially when they went into their heavier stuff and his growls and screams sound even better than on the record. It's also bad that the bassist has a part on I want to say "Criticism and Self Realization" where she sings and she sounds so much better than he does... All of that being said I feel like of they're going to insist on all of the singing that they've found a style that actually suits it fairly well on this album. I think this album is getting a little too much hate, and I say that as someone who probably wouldn't have even given album a chance were it not for my new Google Play subscription. I feel a lot of the hate stems from people not liking Phil. I'm definitely not a fan of a lot of the stuff he says, but I don't know I just don't think the music is THAT bad.
