This is more structured a lively than heritage. Heritage was just so boring.

"Good Review! Heritage was my first ever Opeth album, and I learned The Devil's Orchard on guitar as soon as I heard it. This is probably why I love Heritage so much. I have even higher hopes for this album"
Their metal > Their progrock
Listen to BWP, morningrise, Still Life, or MAYH. They are godlike.

Loved the 70's vibe to this, but it got a little dull as it went on.

Some of the best vocal work Mikaels ever done, though I think.

Heritage isn't boring at all (especially not for Opeth's standards), this isn't really boring either it's just a bit too idk twinkly at times and some of the vocal melodies are kinda cringe worthy.
I can see why people prefer this though as it kinda sounds like Mikael was catering for the fans that were alienated by Heritage by making it more melody-based.

I feel like this would've been better without the overdone vocal harmonies

listened to the first 90 seconds of this alb and it was just fucking awful :[

River is the only song that sticks out here for me. Trade-off solos are fucking sweet.
It's good to see Fredrik solo more, I love his style and the sounds he can get. But I feel this should've been the next logical
step after Watershed and then Heritage.
I don't not like this for lack of death growls or whatever else the imn's hate it for. I'm not liking it because it's just not as out
there as I expected, tame almost. Heritage showed some seriously weird ideas and it would've been cool to see them follow
them. Heritage had better vocals, here it's just oversung nonsense with awkward harmonies.
I can get over that bwp or Still Life aren't coming back and that's cool, I can go listen to them anytime I want.
This new era of Opeth is alright by me, the musicians are top notch but it's the consistency Im worried about.
If they could match the awesome production and weird ideas of Heritage, the melancholic beauty and subtlety of Damnation
with the songwriting of Pale Communion they will smash it out of the park.

Better songwriting and more sweet solos, but less of the cool weird shit and Heritage has better production.

Vocal melodies are fine and yes, this is better than Heritage.
@chug the production on this is stellar.

It is indeed, I just preferred Heritage. This doesn't feel as warm to me.

Heritage felt kinda flat production wise, Mikey opted for a more organic production style and it truly pays off here.
