Imagine if this album ended with fin rather than cities.

It's like a religious end of the world song. .. There's numerous biblical references (blood on the moon) and refers to the antichrist as a man who will "charm the daughters and the sons", which the Bible says he will be charming and charismatic.

"Imagine if this album ended with fin rather than cities."

that wouldn't make any sense - the production has become a lot more dense over the years and *fin is way too stripped down to fit on this album

Wow that's interesting sowing. I always felt that it was the bands attempt to make fin again so that's why I didn't appreciate it enough.

It's really different from Fin lyrically, but musically you could be right.

I was raised in a religious household so lyrics like that always intrigue me, and I'm really interested in end of the world/apocalypse theories (secular or religious), so this hit home in a lot of awesome ways.

To me I just felt like it was a follow up to fin in ever sense of the word (albeit more atmospheric) and that predictability let me down a bit. Didn't help that I didn't know what the fuck the song was about until now, kinda changed the experience a bit.

Cool, if nothing else it will give you a little perspective and frame of reference

I agree with the more consistent less standouts comment. I think its the more subdued and dreary sound.

I love how simple fin is and how much fun it is to play

Yea fin just wouldn't fit on here as a song and as a closer. Just doesn't sound right with the albums sound especially with the last three minutes with the somewhat tribal rhythms.

This is more consistent than Cities, but the best 3 moments on Cities are better than the best moment on here

That's good then. I just have an attachment to Cities (and even moments of New Surrender) that will never be matched.

Having a lot of trouble getting into this one, but I felt the same way about Vital at first and it's my favorite Anberlin album now.

Losing It All is really good, as is Hearing Voices. Stranger Ways is good as well. The rest will need to grow on me, I guess. I'm really not seeing what people like so much about Velvet Covered Brick. Feels like a middling song that never really figures out where it's going.
