Cheers. Things are generally pretty expensive where I live (we have something like 23% VAD) and I don't buy a lot of stuff off the internet so pricing was a little skewed.
Anyway, is the sound signal from medium range pc's in general acceptable or is the motherboard/soundcard/whatever something I should educate myself on?

generally onboard sound chips are pretty bad, but you can get external amp/DAC's that improve quality by a fairly high margin pretty cheaply.
headphones and amp/DAC combo is the cheapest way to get into hifi sound. you could get a pretty good setup for less than $250

agreed w/ hype, I payed around $300 for my set up, then again I got my headphones used for $150 rather than $300, and it's something I'd HIGHLY recommend. The ODAC/O2 amp combo should be perfect for giving you perfectly transparent sound, all the amplification you need, and no coloration (a feature of many amps that change the sound signature of your music). Just remember that the headphones are by far most important part of your set up, so don't stress over getting an expensive DAC or amp, just look for decent ones.

i listened to ep7 while working out today, shit was cash. honestly though i appreciate ep7 in terms of sound design and bridging the gap between lp5 and confield, but besides maphive and dropp, i don't really enjoy any of the songs all that much
