i dont let the worship ruin it, its just combined with predictability and somewhat formulaic nature, nothing really that amazing stands out imo.
and cmon shadow how often do you and half the people in this thread complain about albums from "untrue" bands sounding like other bands srsly

most of the time it's because they're just either straight ripping-off, not adding any personality to the mix, and/or are overall weak sounding
this on the other hand is an album by a band that shows great production (brickwalling ignored), powerful and masterful execution and delivery in all instrumental positions, and good songwriting that's on par to many bands from the old school era, even beyond I dare say given they took the "greatest hits" of it all as you said before.
you're right about them playing it safe and predictable, but at this point in DM history this style is very limited without adding differently styles/genres (at the risk of losing the balls that makes this music badass). it doesn't matter if they outshine some of the outdated osdm bands anyway (imo).

well i dont record and remember every incident, but complaining about a band using the techniques of older/truer/whatever bands.
eg as soon as people hear meshuggah influences in a new band its "wahh djent train" and same goes for p much any new core or prog band. Espesh Cappy i mean geez
but this is immune due to genre and eliteness~~~~

"Its just a greatest hits mash of old school dm worship"
was my reference
and in Meshuggah's case... those djent bands lack the balls that Meshuggah have and that's probably one of the main hidden issues of the whole thing

Been trying to get into that Corpsessed album but it hasn't hit me yet. Seems like what really draws me in is the production, but the songs themselves aren't really that special. I'll listen to it more though.
This album is just so........pure, despite lacking some originality.

yea when it comes to dm i stopped looking for anything new as long as it grushes and I prefer dark
unrelenting death over any progressive fusioning

the reason this revival osdm movement is slightly immune to some of those criticisms (like what you
see with revival thrash and the like), is that these bands are at least making an attempt to modernize
the sound, plus the whole atmosphere/image is pretty different when compared with stuff like early
Autopsy, Dimilich, Morbid Angel and the like. whereas revival thrash just made old school thrash more
cartoony and literally added nothing from a musical perspective, and djent was just kinda gay.
