Ok, so this has to be one of the most frustrating albums. I can't see the viewpoint of either polarizing opinion, neither the gushing over edginess or the attacks on her pretentiousness (which is an irrelevant factor to me if the product is GOOD).
After multiple listens, I'm left with a feeling of emptiness and neutrality and there is just nothing for me to grasp onto or want to revisit. I feel like I had to revisit in case I missed something everyone else claims to be there, but the album ends before it is found.
With this amount of disparity in acceptance, I expected something similar to Age of Adz, which I had to go out and purchase because it was like it was an important album in the timeline of modern music. This, on the other hand... completely lacking in substance and purpose. All I will remember is her hair.

lyrics. wasn't responding to what you said. i mean, if you're not totally in love with it, oh well. i wouldn't say i love it because it's edgy, i like it because it sounds good, and because i love the themes.

I just started listening to this today, have probably heard the whole thing twice. So far I'm undecided...I really, really love digital witness and the last track...the rest had awesomely unique moments and other ones that didn't seem significant. I could see this growing into a 4 for me but I don't see "classic" potential.
Of course I thought the same thing about Kid A so I'll definitely give this more than a fighting chance to grow on me.

yeah this is really god damn awesome album but even a 4.5 is a bit of a stretch for me

Ohhh, I thought you were replying to my lacking purpose comment. I guess St. Vincent had me pre-emptively retorted.

i disliked kid a for years and thought it was boring, and then, almost as if it happened overnight, my opinion changed. the same has happened before when i've listened to past st. vincent albums. they usually aren't as immediate as other albums, and so it takes time to come around to them. that wasn't case this time though, maybe because i've already warmed up to her style so much.
sup pleb. how you livin?

I really like Digital Witness, but I don't think it's the best song on the album. All of her other albums (including the ridiculously underrated Marry Me) have songs that I think are better, too... the wonders of opinions, I guess.
Also, saw her in Boston last week and she was amazing.

All I've heard from here is her cover of Big Black's Kerosene, this seems like it could be good though.
