ye but papercut is better than all of em. they have a few better songs but theyre not on here
|

Its.not though
Still an awesome song though and is perfect as an opener
|
| |
Nope at all a place for my head is more solid, still papercut rules, mike's part was epic and his rap skills were top notch.
|
| |
I can't pick a fav but my top 3 are One Step Closer, Forgotten, and... idno
Those are top 2 tho I think. Like all these songs are perfect so its hard to rank
If you'll let me, My December would be in the top 3
|
| |
My december is perhaps the greatest power ballad crafted by linkin, and the remix took that song to another level, the remix is at the same level of the track cotained in psyence fiction, mezzanine or dummy . Fight me
|
| |
Wow I really need to hear the remix dont I?
|
| |
Yeah you should drifter

Having little nostalgia attached to this album, can still say this album is great and has surprisingly aged well. Papercut is easily the best here.

Always surprised by how well this has aged. I mean of course I dont think I can really appraise this in an objective sense given the nostalgia and memories, but I still love this

It's weird how nostalgia and memories has never really affected my ratings, it rarely affects my enjoyment of an album. In The End and One Step Closer's music videos were 2 of the first 3 music videos I ever seen as a 7/8 year old watching Kerrang.

Nostalgia or not this album is a timeless classic, vocal performances of this album put most of the rock acts of that era in absolute shame, production is flawless here, despite of the simplicity of the instrumentation the sum of the elements had as a result a really powerful and intense amalgam and the lyrics despite of dealing with cliche topics had a multiple space for intepretation and were very well constructed, the biggest proof of that are tracks like with you, runaway, papercut and a place for my head. Besides mike's rapping skills during this era were beyond sick, no wonder why rakim, the roots, styles of beyond, jay z, busta rhymes respected him

@Calc well this was like the first album I ever bought and first band I ever loved, kind of have a pedestal built up for it because of that
I am a super sentimental/nostalgic rater though

Album Rating: 3.5
Fair enough, I'm pretty much the opposite of that lol. I look back on previous stuff and rip it to shreds regardless of any sentimental value it had.

Haha I kind of envy you. I hate having to negotiate the conversational minefield of trying to justify to someone why I've given a certain album a higher rating that I know I probably should have
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
Well, sentimental value justification is more interesting to hear about (unless you're a very gifted writer who can craft analysis very well and is a pleasure to read) and ultimately it's rarer. You probably have more high ratings due to how good they are rather than due to personal important memories unless you're around 35 upwards. Reason I'm like what I am with albums because I'm like that with life in general. Never overemphasizing the past and making the present even better, scoffing at who I was as a person earlier on in life.

you can't really decontextualize music though, if you have memories attached to it they're most likely going to remain forever and i just accept that ratings are not at all commensurable between users and to some extent among a users catalog

Album Rating: 5.0
Yeah i do have about 7 or 8 nostalgia ratings and the other several hundred are just enjoyment. Thing is, my favourite 3 albums are equal parts 1) what they mean to me and how I've lived with them over the years, and 2) the fact that they're still some of the most enjoyable musical experiences ever, so its a bit of a mix for me I guess
Its a fair attitude to have though Calc, one I can admire in a way.

"unless you are 35 onwards"
Damn Calc hitting the spot. I have a lot of nostalgia 5s.

@Ephemeral: Yeah you can't change how you emotionally respond to an album due to the imprint it has left on your life. It's just if you give 2 people the exact same experience with an album they can still have different opinions on the album and how those memories affect them due to differences in their character.
@Asleep: It can be, but how that attitude was spawned is pretty pathetic due to how much of a shitbag I was before 18 lol. If the personal and musical gratification is what you need to 5 an album that's fine, I disagree but ultimately rating systems vary from person to person.
