If I had to write a song (in the style of A Lot Like Birds) about a kitchen, I'd probably harp on the fact that dinner is supposed to be the archtypical time for the family to get together and share food and talk about their day. But at least in my divorced family, that never happened. The nuclear family structure was broken, and therefore so was the tradition of the Family Dinner. We'd all just go in there one by one, grab our food, and carry it off to some place alone or to the tv. That moment of family bonding wasn't there, and could be an interesting starting idea for a song like that.

Any room of a house sounds thematically silly out of context. They would've rocked a kitchen theme just as well as the bedroom, basement and attic themes here (think recluse is attic)
