I'll 4.5 this, there's a factor lacking in this: a stand-out track. None really stands out for me, it's a really consistent record. Still one of the best Metal albums in years and one of the best of the year, for sure.

After a few listens, I can't get into it. No idea why. I just can't. And this should right up my alley too. Good review, pos.

I wholeheartedly agree, but let's ask ourselves this: does it actually matter?

"new ulcerate>"

finally listening to it and I can't agree. the whole album is kinda just mish-mashing into itself. it'll take more listens, it's solid and all but so far other than the imperious weak there are no standouts

this album has like 5 or 6 easy

I can't argue with dat ass MO. Mainly because new ulcerate doesn't have as much staying power... or at least I don't think so. No standout tracks but a good rating means it is solid all the way through, but I have nothing to come back to.

ulcerate is cool, but the songwriting here is more complicated/ interesting. both solid. i'm between a 4 and 4.2 on ulcerate right now

MO, that's actually what I thought on first listen, but I'm ~10 listens in and I'm pretty sure it's their best album.

"but the songwriting here is more complicated/ interesting"

exactly. it's gorguts taking another u-turn. whereas ulcerate is using their tried and tested formula, which is awesome but yea

Ulcerate is an easy 4.5 for me, but this is on a different level than everything else this year imo.

new ulcerate is better than the destroyers of all

i feel like this one is kind of a step back towards obscura which is not exactly what I wanted to see, considering that album gets hard to listen to after awhile (not because it's boring, but because sometimes it's just too much) and I kinda wanted to see more elaboration/progression on the ideas offered in FWTH and perhaps some other old school elements thrown in because Considered Dead (obviously) and The Erosion of Sanity (a bit less so) did that so well

not that this isn't good, it's almost certainly in my top 10 or top 5 of the year so far (more likely the latter)
