"really don't get the kanye hate guy is the most interesting person in pop culture in ever"
its a mixture of people not liking his general arrogance and rudeness, not knowing how commonplace that behavior is in music scenes and just parroting the hate they see others give him. A very small number of people who are against Kanye have actually given his music a chance and can actually justify their dislike for whatever reason that may be.

real talk is it actually "a very small number of people" who used to love rap throughout the 90s and don't like the direction kanye & co. have been taking it over the last decade?

yeah i guess his personality is divisive but he's always fit that flawed genius trope to me

"its a natural progression that would have happened with or without kanye west "
probably yeah, but i still find it thoroughly boring
still i don't hate him, i'm just trying to figure it out here

Theres a lot of factors in "people who hate kanye and can mean it" and that can be one of them, Kanye did shape a large factor of modern hip hop which is understandably something to scorn at if it was a progression from the 90s that you didnt like.

i don't understand why you're always trying to minimise it though like it's almost statistically insignificant or something

'i don't understand why you're always trying to minimise it though like it's almost statistically insignificant or something"
i didnt grow up in that era nor have I immersed myself in much from that particular culture/sound of that era, so I can only state what im saying in very basic "matter of fact" statements. Sorry :/

i fundamentally don't understand why everyone is so defensive about this guy, i've had an easier time criticizing thrice and converge on this site, and i like one of those bands to begin with

his music is just so good tho

can you imagine people being so up and arms if i had said "well i don't really like the direction pantera and korn took metal in the 90s, i was a much bigger fan of 80s metal"
and then suddenly a bunch of 5ers flooding in "no that's cuz ur dumb and dont get it and u hate metal, clearly its not possible to enjoy metal but not these bands"
that's a lot of what i'm seeing across most music sites i peruse when it comes to kanye

its easy when you arent a tool about it
and kanye defense force game strong just because the guy gets way more hate than just about any other artist in the industry. guy makes some great music, so his "defenders" are very zealous about it.
