actually i think the lyrics are fine. very simple, and they suit the complex production well. it was alright up to the point he deducted for bad lyrics. that kind of shit is pedestrian and makes you look like a noob to music criticism. Which is surprising since he's the editor of that section for the guardian. although who knows, maybe he doesn't have anyone really working for him.

I haven't heard the album in its entirety so I can't really speak about the lyrics, but pop or not in my opinion better lyrics make all music better. Its natural negation is that worse lyrics would make it worse. And while it wouldn't knock down an album that the reviewer praised so much to a 3 it could theoretically knock it down a half point or something, like to a 4.5 from a 5.



I'm not sure which one you're objecting to, the idea of bumping down a pop album's score due to lyrics or bumping down a pop album's score excessively due to lyrics.

I just think praising an album to the heavens and then giving it a 3/5 just because you don't like the lyrics is incredibly stupid. I mean, the lyrics here aren't anything stellar but hell, it isn't ICP levels of bad

That's the problem with ICP; even their songs with good beats are ruined because their lyrics are so unbearably awful

Had Blue Ocean Floor on repeat for the last half hour....shits cray cray yo.

you can feel how forced the album is for the most part, parts are there to be there. i loved two tracks though, i still think this is at least halfway decent

However I think the rest of the album pulls off the 7 min song just fine without being boring. Mainly cause the hooks on this record are amazing.

Keep waverin between 4 and 4.5 on this thing.

man, reading some of the reviews for this album is so depressing. it's amazing how people are

refusing to let go of the fact that he was in n-sync and bashing the best thing pop music has produced

in a while



my fav one was where somebody said how too many on the songs were reminiscent of beyonce and a

pathetic attempt at "stealing" her style. urghh

its not that good calm yourself

it is that good, dont tell him what to do

the production is really good too, beats rule, but as much as the vocals fit the music i really can't stand the amount of effects on his voice half the time its annoying
