Well I am really not a fan of the province, personally.

Yo fishy who's that on your new avatar
Also, from what I gathered the "British" part of Canada doesn't like the "French" part and vice-versa. Quebec actually wanted to become it's own state afaik but never went through with it.

Mélanie Laurent (was waiting for someone to ask considering I had the same avatar for like, 2 years)
There was a referendum for independence a few years back and it only just got rejected (something
crazy like 51% no 49% yes).
From what I hear, Montréal is cosmopolitan and bilingual and shit but the rest of Quebec hate the
British speaking part and go as far as shunning the language and anyone who speaks english
edit: "49.42% "Yes" to 50.58% "No"."
wow

Name seems incredibly familiar but I can't put my finger on it.
That sounds pretty damn harsh. No surprise the BC people I talk to tend to make fun of them if the seriously despise them that much - if just for the language they speak.

she was in Inglourious Basterds, that's how most people know her

Idk that's just what I was told by someone. That in parts of Quebec you'd get people shouting "ici on parle français!" at you if they overheard you speaking English. Never been so I personally wouldn't know
|
| |
Yeah, that seems to correlate with what I've heard so I can't blame 'em for at least being like "what do I care".
Right, damn. Always with the movies and the actor names.

I think everyone was getting sick of my old one though
Not least of all me
|
| |
That avatar makes you instantly more likable than your old one.
|
| |
there was a really smug feel to my old one that spillt into my comments. I'm surprised I didn't change it sooner
|
| |
Idk about that but yeah it definitely looked smug. This one's more chill and shit.
Also, Melanie Laurent's actually a pretty sweet lookin' chick. (also kudos for it not being someone completely exposed or a musician)
|
| |
she's relatively well known in france but yeah she's pretty gorgeous without having to overdo it on the makeup and shit
Not a fan of celebrity avatars?

The general stereotype is that most of Canada hates Quebec, and vice versa. I'm live in Vancouver, and we pretty much just hate everyone cause we live next to Alberta (booooo) and fuck everyone out East.
In terms of how Quebec actually is, obviously places like Montreal and Quebec City are still touristy, so you can speak English with few issues - however you will get the stink eye in some places, especially in Quebec City (which is starting to get towards the exclusively French part of Canada - where some people don't even speak English at all). It's not just Quebec though, there are francophone communities in Manitoba and New Brunswick (at least, I'm sure there are more) but for most intents and purposes, Canada is still just another English speaking country.
and btw, Mélanie Laurent is drop-dead gorgeous. I fell in love with her after the first scene of Inglorious Basterds.

"is it just towards English speaking Canadians or all Anglophones?"
anyone who isn't a Francophone basically, though I'm sure they're civil around Anglophones that are bilingual. Essentially there is a large section of Quebecers that see themselves as their own separate people, separate nationality, etc. etc. As you can see, the recent referendum came dangerously close to passing.
It's not the only such movement in the country though, the second largest separatist movement in Canada id in BC (though it's nothing next to Quebec's) and it's because we're sick of getting tossed aside in favour of dealing with Quebec's hysterics and Ontario's greed, not to mention Alberta's total domination over all business in the West.
"why do most canadians sound like normal americans but others sound like george st. pierre?"
because some are French, duh. but the Canadian accent is actually pretty distinguishable from the American (I have learned this abroad, and it's 100% true).
behold Ray's last jump, in all it's lovely Canadian glory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hny1KcGiyr4
now that's a Canadian accent, still think we sound like Americans?
