"But Google “Hop Along Get Disowned Review", and you’ll see that the band’s proper 2012 debut (Quinlan had released a solo album under the name) was as universally overlooked as Painted Shut was universally praised."
thanks for giving us credit where credit is due Ian

Pitchfork gets kind of a bad rap. Sure there's some awful pretentious stuff there but I can't say they don't have pretty good taste a lot of the time and their writers may be full of themselves but they're not bad.
On an unrelated note, I should definitely check this as I really liked Painted Shut.

Their writing, particularly as they've grown more serious, is top quality. Of course the seriousness brings with it some of the pretentiousness as well, but whatever. It's a pretty good site.
My only real complaint with them these days is that their opinions can be so predictable. And that sometimes they seem to be a on a personal crusade to turn an artist or an album into a classic. My strongest memories of this are Vince Staples and Ariel Pink but there's probably others.

They despised The Mars Volta

Yeah I did think that was a bit weird but they've grown off me slightly over the years.
