Haven't got to DC EP either yet but Shadows is really cool so hyped for that. Also freakily nice timing man I just got Untitled #6 then, it's sweet as.

yeah it's similar songwriting style to shadows but the production is stripped way back, him and josh made all those 2004 albums in like four or five days each

dc ep is a real gem man, just four very good songs

Liking 12 a lot, love those tripped-out lyrics. His vocals are so all over the place though, sometimes they're great like on his later stuff and sometimes they're just ear-wrenching. Guitarwork is phenomenal as always though.

Pretty much, he sounds like he was well and truly fucked up on those albums. Surprisingly I liked Smile quite a bit, not as hard to listen to or bad as people make it out to be. It really could have done without Nigger Song though, that was just shit.

I really liked the title track, raw as fuck. Once you get past that bad upper register he had on that album there's really little to complain about. And I listened to that Estrus EP and oh man, if he'd put on Outside Space instead of Nigger Song, that shit would've been fucking amazing.

Anyway on From the Sounds Inside now and so far I've been enjoying it way more than Water. Water just didn't grab apart from a few songs for some reason.

Yeah agreed but idk I just didn't dig it that much. I'm a vocals-centric guy so I think I'll always like his later releases more just cos he improved so much on those ones.

He was even great in '99 on Californication, fuckin Right on Time man. Still prefer Klinghoffer on vocals but I could say that in comparison to most artists, not a dig at Frusciante.

love when he just slurs the fuck out of his words, esp tunes like communique, at your enemies, another etc

Yeah dude probably my Top 5 singers but not sure, need to check out some live stuff from him cos I dunno if he uses effects on record or not. But yeah I know what you mean with the slurring, normally it would annoy me cos I can't understand the lyrics but it just works so well with him especially with Dot Hacker, just sort of takes away the need for verses or choruses and blurs it into one giant line, it's amazing. I think Communique is my favourite song by him and Frusciante, counting DH and Frusciante solo.

effects on record? you mean on his voice? i don't think so, perhaps a lil bit of reverb here and there but otherwise no

i remember reading that on 'another' he was trying to make his voice sound like it was being altered by synths without actually adding any effects, pretty cool idea

yeah communique is just insanely unfairly good like wow

live version of communique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZE6bKE6av0

sounds pretty similar to the record (no vocal effects)

Yeah I meant on his voice, I read an interview where he said he was really nervous about just putting his vocals and lyrics out there (understandable) so he used effects to sort of hide that a bit, not sure if he was referring to Dot Hacker though. I can never tell whether there's reverb or not, I showed some of my friends his part on "Meet Me at the Corner" and they said it had heaps of reverb but I can't tell. Cheers for the live version though that was just what I was looking for, sounds amazing.
