I'm listening to Cities again for the first time in a few weeks. Ugh, the production is so much

clearer than Vital.

Def. New Surrender is by far my favorite ANberlin production though.

I dunno, New Surrender had clean production too, but I can't really tell the difference between good

and great production. It's one of those things that I only notice if it's bad (e.g., chorus of Modern

Age, audio clipping [not in this album but in like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy], and instruments

melting together a la Orpheum)

I know what you mean toxin. I listen to a song like Resistance though and the production just rules so hard. Dynamic and clear.

Yeah, I'm listening to it right now and everything comes together so clear. That song definitely rules.

Actually come to think of it, I think you're right about the great production of New Surrender. In my review, I talked about how the similarly-tempo'd middle section manages to stay interesting because the songs each have different "atmospheres" which in retrospect is obviously partially due to the production.

"first two songs are pretty cool although the production seems a little off, but that could just be the quality of my version."

When this first started streaming I picked up a DL that I'm guessing was just some amateur rip of the stream - sounded like someone took their speaker output and routed it back to their input and recorded it, the levels were all fucked, everything was muffled and shitty. So I waited for it to come out before listening and it's definitely a way better version. Make sure you get a proper version of it.

Brilliant album. I can't believe they came back with a new, experimental sound that fits Stephen's voice so well!

Tremendous review Sowing. I agree with so many individual sentences here & they really are terrifically worded... One of your best, I think.[2]

This is incredible. Seriously.

And by the way, who is this DuPree? In which band does she sing? Thanks for any hint..

I really don't consider this near Cities or NTFP, and this is coming from a serious Anberlin fan. It mayyyy get a 4, not sure yet. Yeah it sounds like old classic Anberlin, but something is really missing and I can't explain what it is yet
