well argued review; nonetheless I do not like this album. I suppose the reason is that it isn't like other in flames, which isn't objective, but what can you do?

I don't own the full album, but i have about half of the songs.
I don't particularly like "take this life" for some reason, but the title track is amazing. Reflect the Storm and Crawl through knives are also very good.

Take This Life and Leeches are the only really good songs here. Pacing Death's Trail is pretty good. The rest range from mediocre to suck.
In conclusion, this album is a disappointment. It amazes me that this album garners more attention than an amazing album like The Jester Race or Clayman. The guitar riffs on this album are just not creative at all and sometimes virtually non-existent. The song Come Clarity is way too commercialized and whiny for me too.
When I bought the CD, it had a sticker on it that said, "The band that paved the way for bands like As I lay Dying, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage. I really didn't see the resemblance between those bands and In Flames earlier albums. This Message Edited On 04.16.07

They're influenced by these guys later stuff.
The title track is perhaps the only one I like. :x And Dead End. I used to like this more, but...

Well, bands like Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage were already around before IF essentially changed their sound for the worse. The label was just trying to put some popular bands on the sticker to sell the album. This Message Edited On 04.16.07

I agree with all that except that I'm not so sure that this album is better than Reroute to Remain. Reroute to Remain had Trigger and Cloud Connected. Both of those songs own anything from this album. Trigger is actually one of the best songs they've ever written, imo.

Yea, the main problem is that the creative guitar work is virtually non-existent on this album. There are a couple of cool riffs here and there, but it's nothing when compared to the likes of Clayman, The Jester Race, Colony, and Whoracle.

i think the main reason i can view this as a 5/5 in light of their older work, is that i'm the sort of person who rarely expects a band to repeat old standards. i've rarely, if ever, accused a band of "selling out" and i'd much rather see progression, or (as is the case with come clarity) a mix of the bands old and new styles, than lame rehashing of old material. and as far as "creative guitar playing" goes, i value how pleasing the sound is to my ear over how hard it is to play or the complexity of the arrangement.

To Spoon of Grimbo:
Yea, but Come Clarity isn't pleasing to my ears. It has very few catchy, cool riffs that the old albums were loaded with. Some songs have virtually no guitar work at all. This album is more like a regression than a progression except for the fact that this is the follow up to STYE. STYE actually had some really cool songs, though, too like My Sweet Shadow and The Quiet Place.

tbqh, i never really liked "Trigger" too much :P I mean, it's pretty darn good but i never loved it. I loved the title track, Free Fall, and Egonomic the most on R2R

the title track is the best song here imo. First i hated the vocals, but it soon grew on me, plus the solo is amazing, andd the chorus is pretty powerful.

i saw these guys on the unholy alliance tour, and i can vouch for the fact that he CAN hit all the notes live, which i'll admit suprised me a little. but still, he did it.

Come Clarity is such a well done song

this album just isnt as good as "soundtrack to your escape." seriously, there is almost no new stuff here, its almost a repeat of stye, but thats not that big a problem in my opinion, a band needs to keep the same central sound
