I don't know what it is but the songs on the EP seem much more intricate than their album counterparts.

I just like how much the ep reminds me of fellsilent, well Neema was on it. Damn, I miss that band.

How on Earth can you like Fellsilent but not this? Both bands are John Browne, all the way. This album is the shit.

Already answered that, i don't know, it's just the way it is. This doesn't click with me, sounds pretty different. Lacks some Acle i guess. And maybe some Neema

@Dot
Because this album is completely emotionally sterile. Fellsilent was full of rage and tension. The band members hated each other, but it was fucking good music.
Fast forward to 2013 and nazi Browneshirt has kicked out anyone who disagrees with him. Mike and Swanny are both awesome technical players but that emotional catharsis that made Erase/Begin so kickass is gone. There's just no tension.

Acle didn't make Fellsilent at all, and he definitely didn't make TesseracT any better.
How this is average to you just blows my mind.

Blue Sky Thinking and Doxa alone make this album a 3 at least.
@But - "Tension" or lack of doesnt make this album any less. Look at my comments on Fellsilent's
review. I love the shit out of it. But both are great in their own respective genre. Yes Neema and
Joe added a certain hardcore element, but regardless John Browne has been the forerunner. Chuck
will agree with me.

It's very different. It feels bland. I know everyone loves this, even my bandmate loves this beyond anything Fellsilent could do, but it doesn't click with me. He also keeps saying that its impossible for me not to like this when i like Fellsilent, i still disagree hard. It doesn't compare. The depressive tone on the vox, the emotion, pretty much like butkuiss said.
Also i really don't see how you can say that Dot. The influence of Acle on Fellsilent is very evident imo. The layering of guitars, the melodic side of their sound seemed to be Acle all over, and if you did listen to Tesseract's One, it's impossible not to fetch something comparable to what has been seen on Fellsilent. It leads me to believe that Acle was for melody, while Browne is more for the groove/djent part. Idk, just saying really. Now that Acle's influence on Fellsilent was big, that's pretty evident to me.

You do know John Browne wrote the entire guitar tracking of The Hidden Words in it's entirety right?

I didn't. I'm sorry, my argument is not as valid as i thought it was then, my bad. Taking your word
for it.
I'll still say though, i feel like Gnosis lacks melody and offers no more then most of the dozens of
Djent acts creating an impact today. While Tesseract (while a lot less in their latest album) still
have tons of melody and i really feel like Acle has carried that on from Fellsilent too. From wherever
it be that he carried it from, the point is he (and the rest of Tesseract of course) accomplishes a
much more complete sound. Gnosis feels more like a "Djent done right 101" release than anything. Lacks
character. My two cents

It's not just the lack of tension though. This album is emotionally sterile. It has groove, and the playing is technically great, but apart from that, what is there?

Exactly.

I mean I've always respected your opinion. But Matt Rose is miles ahead of Neema and Joe, and I love
both bands equally, they each bring their own to the table.
And you say it's djent 101 because Fellsilent was one of the pioneers and Monuments is newer in the
category, but the truth is John Browne is the mastermind behind both bands, without his sound neither
band would have ever been what they are. Listen to the guitars. Both albums guitar-wise are
phenomenal, and Acle honestly had shit to do with either one of them. And TesseracT hasn't been
anything since One and before. And they go through members like condoms.

Having a unique sound is only half the battle though. An aesthetic is useless if it doesn't accomplish something. And it's not like it can't be done. Uneven Structure, Meshuggah, Vildhjarta, and sometimes TesseracT are contemporary to Monuments and all manage to have some sort of emotional impact beyond their technical ability. It's just not there with Monuments in my experience. It's more like "Oh, that riff is cool, groove makes me want to go bang my head" and you bang your head and that's it.

That Tesseract discussion is another discussion, haha.
Acle certainly did have something to do with One though.
And no man, i don't say that because Monuments arrived later to the "scene", at all. You know me, i listen to a lot of core, i don't care if it's newer or older. Most music i like is from the last 8 years lol. No, i say that because Monuments is a "regular" good Djent band. And i do like Djent, sometimes a lot. But i don't like Djent just for the sake of Djent. If all a band does is wanking on a guitar it mostly loses my interest.
