It doesn't fit in better with the first trilogy, it fucks it up. Gandalf knows exactly who he is fighting and yet 60 years later in Lord of the Rings, he shits himself that Sauron is returning? I fully support showing the Necromancer, but shoving it down the audiences throat that he is Sauron from the get go and making him this huuuugggeee evil is stupid.

Azog is just there for more action pieces and increasing the length of the films. He does almost nothing in the second film but he keeps popping up to take up screen time and then his character is made more worthless with the reveal. I don't want to spoil whatever happens for you.

Radagast is a horrible part of the films. Everything he does is straight up fucking stupid.

In Pt II, Bilbo crazy slaughters this giant crab spider thing when he is afraid it's going to take the ring from him



Del Toro is an amazing director with an absolute passion for design. Jackson didn't even want to do these movies and said he had no interest in spending the next five years of his life working in middle earth again and it shows. It doesn't mean there aren't enjoyable aspects of the Hobbit films, but it's obvious he isn't putting his heart into it the way he did with Lord of the Rings

That's exactly the point. He is turning a children's novel into a 9 hour epic just because. Two movies would have been plenty and I would have been stoked. Either way, I am looking forward to the fan edit that will chop out all the shit I don't like.

I actually don't really have much more to say because I need to see the second movie when it comes out in Australia. But I like the cast of the Hobbit movies even more than the cast of LOTR, and that's a massive statement for me.

He is shoehorning in so many characters that didn't exist or weren't there, though they don't all bother me. Legolas is actually a badass and more how he should have been in Lord of the Rings, though he looks incredibly stupid and like watching a PS2 cutscene the whole movie. The She-elf (Taurandiel?) is hot and actually useful but totally just an Arwen clone. I was actually really disappointed in Beorn though. What a waste of a character that could have been cool as fuuuuuck



I don't know about that. The Hobbit is an insanely popular and well known story. It's written in a light hearted and fun way, so that it's accessible. Lord of the Rings is extremely inaccessible and Tolkien has absolutely no idea how to pace the story

Yeah Legolas being in it is a fan service but hey I'm a fan so I'm not complaining

I think it'll hafta wait until he sees Desolation to keep this puppy rolling. You should be pleased with Legolas in Desolation, Row. He is pretty much the polar opposite of his character in LOTR films
