True, so many stunning moments on here, like Providence.

even the spoken word track is so hypnotic. i remember walking around airport terminals in random countries just having my head in another world listening to that track. completely disconnected and spaced out

February MMX had arguably their best chorus until the new album came along. Still might be though.

"can anyone tell me why this has 3.3 avg" Nope definitely a solid 4.0. Perhaps it's because this was a followup to their masterpiece Shadows of the Sun?

This is up there with some of their best. I've seen people saying the new one is most similar to this and if we're going to compare the two I definitely prefer this.

I agree that if you had to compare TAOJC to something previous in their discog it would be this album, and as of right now that I also prefer this over the new one, however, Ulver ratings are always subject to change.

I dunno. "February MMX" and "England" maybe, but aside from them I wouldn't call this any more similar to the newest one than Perdition City, Shadows of the Sun or Blood Inside. It's too classy, too gentle, too "ancient".

I think by far the closest they ever got to Julius was on Childhood's End.

"I wouldn't call this any more similar to the newest one than Perdition City, Shadows of the Sun or Blood Inside."

Interesting opinion! I mentioned this in another thread, but yeah there are also moments of TAOJC that could've come straight off Perdition City, and others that sound like they would sit well on Svidd Neger. Vocal melodies not unlike moments on Blood Inside, etc. This was the first time Ulver went for some more straightforward songs like February MMX that groove like certain songs on TAOJC, and also incorporating some "pop" female vocals on songs like Providence. But yeah, there are some crazy abstract moments on Wars of the Roses that are just Ulver being Ulver and can't be compared. To me this album is the closest comparison not including the compilation Childhood's End, but good point.
