this is one of the very few nu metal albums i can stomach... the over the top in your face aggression and very versatile drumming and songwriting being the main reasons.

The deranged atmosphere adds a lot to it's appeal. So for me the gimmick with the masks seriously worked...

Yeah it's a solid debut album, especially for the genre, but Volume 3 is their best imo.

I used to think that, but tbh I really think that one is lacking in the horror atmosphere and the intense energy that the first two had, which is what made them so interesting in the first place. A bunch of dudes in jump suits and serial killer masks doing catchy hard rock doesn't really cut it for me anymore.

Agreed

I hesitate to call a slipknot album technical, but I like Iowa because it's their most technical album

You should check Iowa

Imo this and Iowa are basically tied. Iowa has even more embarrassing lyrics than this which make it a bit hard for me to really get into some of it as much as I otherwise would. I remember seeing them live and being kind of awkward screaming those lyrics out loud lmfao

Which makes their interviews kind of hilarious when they talk about themselves as if they are high art that no one except for the maggots understand. Corey and Shawn seem chill, but also a little pompous - like Tool but without the artistic integrity to back it up lol
