Crying Tree's my least favorite here but I don't hate it

Crying Tree is great. That gong-y drum sound and those synths and the distorted mix towards the end... awesome

to be fair i could just as easily give BSBT my bottom spot, if only for the added bonus of knowing there's the far superior Arising version out there

Don't get me wrong this is still a very solid album imo.

All the singles rule, Age of Innocence, Wound etc.

Crying Tree and BSBT being sequenced closely together near the end is what brings them down, IMO. They're both pretty similar, draggy mood pieces that can blur together if you're not overly familiar with them. I don't hate them on their own, BSBT was one of the highlights when I saw them last year, but they seem to fulfill a very similar function on the album and when I don't feel like giving the whole 73 minutes a go invariably one of these will get skipped.

you pretty much nailed it

in any case, I normally go for Glass & the Ghost Children (fan-compiled double album pulling from both Machinas) these days anyway

I could see that. They are pretty similar, yeah.

I guess I just have a soft spot for Corgan's brand of electro/goth-gaze shit, it's just a winning sound for me. Like, I even kinda enjoy TheFutureEmbrace lol

Second Glass & the Ghost Children, it's excellent even if Corgan says it's way off (not that I necessarily believe him).

And Future Embrace is solid, agreed! Those thick gorgeous guitars alone can carry the whole thing imo. Some really nice songs too.

I agree that BSBT and Crying Tree are stupidly sequenced but I love them both

If anyone is looking for a different sequence check my list where I reordered this album to fit a fuller narrative (;

Wound is such an underrated SP track. And that 3.2 disgusts me.
