You know what people mean however. With prog metal people generally mean-Dream Theater and Dream Theater worship, and within Prog rock...I dont know.
I think people also associated prog with bad which is stupid.

To tie terms like “progressive” or even “avant-garde” to specific sounds is against the inherent meaning of the terms entirely. They exist because they will always express the subject of change and compositional form. If all prog sounded the same and meant a specific and changeable sound, the word would have no reason to exist.

Before modern production techniques, max volume meant “loud” not “deafening”, and the halfway mark of a volume knob didn’t mean “max volume”

It really wasn't though. This is a great sounding album and nowhere near as quiet as you imply. Hell, Scream Bloody Gore is just as quiet if not quieter than this album.

knew someone was gonna go on a loudness war tirade. mayhem is right, this is quiet even for old albums. not that it really matters anyways though, thats what the volume knob is for.

I didn't go on a loudness war tirade, I just don't believe this album is that quiet. I listened to this today and had the volume bar three quarters filled, which is average for most albums this old. If I listen to an album from the 60s or 70s I usually have it around the same, maybe higher. Most modern albums I have below the halfway point. It's not really a problem - I don't care that much, it just means I have to adjust volume. I just believe Mayhem's criticism of it is unwarranted because it's demonstrably fine.

The only problem I ever had with "the loudness war" was back on my old iPod classic I had in high school, I literally couldn't listen to Scream Bloody Gore because max volume was too quiet for it. It was very annoying.

Bah! You must be old of spirit and frail of body if you cannot handle the noise! That being said, seldom do I use earbuds....perhaps its time for me to adapt...

Skele hasn't been official for a long time. I'm surprised he still has the energy to make another alt after his previous 200.
