both Travels and Lost Ground were strong 4.5s for me but I felt as if they each had that certain something extra missing.



This album has that certain something extra. I know that a lot of people think that Defeater are beating a dead horse with their lyrical concepts. I can kind of see the point, but I think the differing viewpoints is a very unique twist and is very very well executed. In my opinion, everything just comes together so perfectly on this album in a way it didn't on their previous efforts.



And the acoustic tracks, well...that's just a delicious cherry on top. I know a lot of people think the leak is messed up, but I think that the way White Oak Doors cuts off suddenly and is followed by a minute + of silence is brilliant. I don't think the transition into the acoustic tracks would have been so smooth otherwise. It's like, the silence is just the perfect amount of time to let the intensity sink in before they hit you with a different style.
