The highest I think I ever had this was like a 3, 3.5 (but I was twelve and liked skramzzz). Except on one of my alts who trolled it with a 4.5. =]

what is this "golden calf" myth you guys keep babbling about? legit like 4-5 staffers are really passionate about this album. that's it. sputnik in general does not care about negative press for this album beyond the regular 'oh-i-love-this-album/fuck-you-it-sucks' conflicts.

If Spuntik didn't care about this album then ONE negative review wouldn't have created such a shitstorm. If the staff didn't care then wouldn't constantly pitch in on all these threads and lower the reputation of the site by being so childish with a regular user

it created such a shitstorm because of how it was written and jordan's constant trolling/baiting of user opinions. i pitch in because the whole brouhaha annoys me and i'm not sure why we're having this discussion about this album and not, like, animal collective or ANYTHING else. the album itself i could care less about

I'm not talking about just staffers. Bands like Converge, CTTS, (not so much Opeth anymore), Godspeed You!, etc. are seen to be objectively perfect by a LOT of the users on this site. To the point where voicing dislike for them elicits a chorus of "fag!". This album in particular has just become somewhat of a fulcrum for the dichotomy.

legit like 4-5 staffers are really passionate about this album. that's it.
all i'm going to say is that 4-5 Staffers who are really passionate and aggressively overprotective of this album is plenty to make it difficult for anyone who really passionately hates an album to voice his opinion. especially when there's no one on the Staff who has openly disliked this album
plus there's one Mod (Dave de Sylvia) who has this at a 4.5, though I don't think this influences his decisions

Sputnik doesn't care about this album. A few of the staff members do and they're allowed to be as passionate for this album as the other people are against it. This "shitstorm" never happened. The review was posted (over and over), people bitched for and against the inclusion of the review, it was deleted some more and MJ threw a fit (along with a few of his more devoted followers) and finally got the review to be permanent (at least until a few weeks ago). That was the only thing that happened.
