But for the few times that I've listened to this album, I think this stands out from the other albums (only listened to Colors and half of Alaska), but it just doesn't do it for me.

These guys can definitely play but, it seems like they different parts of the songs don't flow together very well. I thought they were better when they were more metalcore oriented and didn't focus on adding in ridiculous random genres.

Honestly no one apparently knows what they were doing on Colors. I think that album is genius and the parts where they "pointlessly shred" are not pointlessly put in the songs. There was a reason why those parts are there and I bet you it wasn't to show off. And everyone seems to be upset that the band put solos and shred parts that are cheesy yet catchy and epic on Colors. The Silent Circus days were the sloppiest and least thought out imo. This album is really fucking good and to take away from their efforts by saying that they just recycled parts from their old shit imo is messed up when someone puts a shitload of time and precision into their music to make it perfect. And to me all the shred parts fit perfectly into the mix and blake's drumming on Colors was amazing as well as on this cd. I don't like when a band is talented but constantly put down for the fact that they put different aspects of the music such as soloing and shred riffs into their songs. I have always heard a flawless flow in their music and I have played guitar for 8 years so I can tell when they're showing off and when they are being creative in order to add to a song. And to be honest I personally think that they are putting those so called "showing off parts" where they need to be and it is for the sake of the creative flow of the song. Think about it, if you took those parts off of Colors, do you really think it would sound nearly as epic? No, it would ruin the songs and make them like everyone else..... Anyways, so far on the first listen I dig this new album a lot. Also I thought the review was very well written but it felt like for a person that put a 4 on the review that the Cons sorta outweighed Pros.
