Of course the Japs had to get the best deal. Back on Disaster steals a chorus from Over the Madness but both that and Cardinal Zero are cool additions

Alternatively you can pick Tragic Illusion 25 and have all these B-sides in one place.

Life was easier when I didn't care for bonus tracks.

And cheaper

I praised the first half of the album but The Rise of Denial and Universal Dream are two of my favorites right now. Definitely one of their best albums imo, I'd be curious to hear the recent dedicated vinyl master

Tragic Illusion 25 is an essential Paradise Lost release imo. it's not wholly consistent, but the best tracks are really damn good.

I just wish it'd had some of the B-sides from the self-titled and Symbol of Life.

I wouldn't call it essential. It's got one new song and two re-recordings but the rest is all bonus tracks from In Requiem to Tragic Idol and only two were Jap-only (+ one on 7''). Then again SoL and s/t were released under GUN while Tragic Illusion covers Century Media material

what's your point? they may be B-sides, but they're all really good tracks. some of the best from the sessions for their respective albums. that Missing cover is especially good.

this and tragic idol are still their best modern records tbh

Yeah idk what I was going for there, my bad. I'm the first to fight for bonus tracks, I even did it in this page. I think the stuff in TI25 is good, just not essential or particularly needed for everybody. That said I expect a die-hard fan to be familiar with a sweet song like Cardinal Zero.

I'm having no luck in getting into Tragic Idol except for a couple a songs, but definitely agreed about this one and it's actually my most played in general after Draconian Times at the moment

Love the t/t. Live version is even better

Draconian Times may be their best creatively, but this is definitely their musical peak imo. I would say that Shades of God has the best of both worlds, but sadly the musicianship in that one is highly debatable so despite it being my personal favorite-ish I can't really say it loud.

This is still the best "modern" PL record.

I feel the same, my most listened PL album. It's pretty nostalgic for me, and was the first one I heard almost a decade ago now.

^^I humbly beg to differ, both its immediate predecessor and successor blow this out of the water.
