Dude i totally agree with this review! I thought i was the only person who thought that meshuggah was boring. They imo create less interesting grooves than some of the people they influence and tbh they have made essentially the same record over and over again but now more than ever the emphasis on chug adds to the monotony of their music. Great review! pos'd

sexpoi that had even worse arguments than the review

It took me one failed review and failure to produce proper arguments against the band, but now I fully understand their sound. I made a review on Violent Sleep of Reason, yall dumb haters should look at the replies(especially MementoMori's(starts page 2)) to truly appreciate/understand the band.

Essence are you retarded? They are more unique than 90% of metal currently. It's not because they chug that they're automatically generic ya numbty.

The key to understanding this sort of music is thinking logically about the polyrhythms and the time signatures. Basically Tomas Haake plays (typically) 4/4 on the crash to keep the timings, then uses either compound timings or 7/8 or 3/4 etc. on the bass pedals and snare. It is more of a pendulum swing rather than a tick tock to put it into words - essentially Meshuggah are the pioneers of this sort of metal. Whilst they incorporate other elements, everything they do follows a pattern. And it is awesome how they utilise it.

Or, you can understand the fact they're based upon nuances inside an aesthetic which itself is based on autonomy, rhythm, tone, and surreal atmosphere.

Pages I recommend for better explanation and further detail; look at MementoMori's and Nocte's replies specifically. Everything I said was ignorant and shallow-minded so do not look at my replies:

"jumbled thrash meets a robot"

yes. that's the point of their sound, mister. I posted two things about it above anyways

"pretentious and unassuming"

huh, a bit like the ignorant and pompous writer of this review. Funny isn't it? Just want to press on the fact Meshuggah includes many nuances with each song, and obviously your ear isn't trained enough to realize that, apparently. Because saying something like "there was no evolution in Obzen" or "the grooves all sound the same" despite very obvious points of difference is stupid. Again, read my other comments above for more information.

Similarly, sexpoi is the exact example of an ignorant idiot with zero auditory training or attempt to comprehend more conceptual/specific music.

Not sure what the relevance is for me to be name-dropped in the comments section of this review. Or the point of it really? However I am glad to see you taking on some of the points of discussion from your own review thread Mr relik. That said there's still a love for 'Bleed' that will always remind me of the Simpsons dub/overlap where Homer learns bass.

Good times.
