The key here is to take the historical view - they were called shoegaze at the time (one of the very first to be called it!) so even though the style evolved beyond their sound that doesn’t make them less shoegaze than their counterparts.
A slight irony here is that out of the "big three" 90s shoegaze bands/albums, this is the only one to have shoegaze as its only primary genre on RYM. Make of that what you will.

Eh, probably more like the average user's 3.5 I'd say. Or at least my 3.5 and I think I'm a pretty average rater as far as how I distribute them relative to my enjoyment. My average score is 3.5 and some change but I consider that to be skewed high since I'm pretty selective about what I check out, I think Cyg is probably less so.
