So I finally got around to listening to this a few times and while I personally don't think it's a five, it is very good. I absolutely love Adam Lazzara vocals in this album, they are so scathing sometimes you can feel his anger through the speakers. The only song I don't really care for is "Cut Me Up, Jenny", it's so boring. Favorites are "Carpathia", "Lonely, Lonely", "Sink into Me" and "Where My Mouth Is". Biggest problem though is that Matt Fazzi is basically no where to be found vocally which is a disappointment for me because I really liked the duel vocals from previous albums.

Freeman, get real. Just because you're on staff doesn't mean you get a free pass on an obviously biased fanboy review like this. Yeah it's very well-written and all, but everyone knows this is not a perfect album. Nor does it fulfill any reasonable criteria for being a classic. There is clearly some filler, clearly instances where the band could have done much better. You even alluded to this yourself by admitting that the album has weak songs. The main defense for your rating seems to be that "their music is honestly timeless" and that "they've never felt like more of a summer band than they do [now]." These are subjective descriptions that could fit many bands besides TBS and many albums besides New Again. I mean heck, you even said yourself that it's not as good as their first two albums.

So excuse me if i'm over-analyzing, but it seems rather obvious. The rating is too high to begin with, and you don't back it up nearly well enough.

This songs in fact are timeless.

You know this after a few weeks how?

Chan did some pretty spot on reviews in the past.

This is a good review, the rating's just misleading. Nothing justifies the 5/5. Nothing you just said does either.

So, before accusing people of being biased, look their track record.

Like rating their other albums 5s?

timberwolf:

i am looking at Chan's track record. He has done good reviews in the past, which is why i'm giving him a hard time about this one. i know reviews are opinions, but they are supposed to be somewhat objective. And giving every single album in TBS's discography a classic rating doesn't strike me as extremely objective. Especially when he acknowledges that there are faults in every single one.

So until you can come up with some better arguments, i agree with strikey. The album's good, but it's no classic. And nothing Chan has said thus far justifies the rating.

Agreed. We know with every cd released there will be enough fanboyism surrounding it that you'll end up getting biased reviews. The great thing about this site is that generally the highest quality reviews are the most objective ones; i.e written by the staff reviewers.

Havent listened to this yet but have no doubts it will be a very good cd, but the review doesn't match the rating.
