I went on an In Flames binge for a weeks and wanted more metal, but I'd had my fill of IF. So I googled around, and like always when on the internet, you bounce from page to page an don't know how you got there. I ended up finding Amorphis' stuff on YouTube. I thought it was pure generic Scandinavian cheese. But a few Silent Waters tracks caught my attention. I listened to the whole shebang, and when I reached the end, I just loved this album more than the rest. Personal opinion really. I just find this album has more catchy hooks, a better flow, etc. The ending track really should have been From Earth I Rose. It makes Godlike Machine seem like a weaker track. And that's my only gripe with it.

Sorry - that was vague: After liking some of Silent Waters, I got their entire discography and listened to that. Not just Silent Waters upwards.

This has so much more punch and flair to it than Silent Waters. I will say this again, 'Sky is Mine' is one of my favourite songs from 09.

Good review. I'm on my first listen right now and it sounds pretty good so far, but I'll withhold my rating until I get four or five listens under my belt, for good measure, hah.

I will maintain here that this album is just superb. I'm getting increasingly hard to please with melodic metal, especially the Scandinavian stuff. I downloaded their discography expecting garbage.....and found a bunch of sub-par albums, and then this little gem. Very catchy. Still listen to it once every few weeks.

After more than a year the initial disappointment has finally worn off, and I'm bumping this to a 3 (a low 3).

Sorry, a 3 is as high as this is going to go.

I actually deleted all of my ratings because I realized that most of them weren't even my opinion anymore, and a lot of things I rated highly I don't even like anymore. So, I'm going through all of my music and re-listening to each album before re-rating it (unless I've listened to it recently already).
