Have you heard the album, or read any of the lyrics? Holiday and American Idiot are the only political songs.

They're the only explicitly political songs. If you can't see the undertones through the rest of the album you're more stupid than my 11-year-old brother.

Yeah, undertones.

So it has to mention the government to be a political song?

You give me the political undertones to "Whatsername" and "Homecoming."
You know what, since you're the smart one here, how about you do the rest of the album too? Give Me Novacaine, plz?

Yes, I'm going to go through the whole of an album I don't like telling you why lines like "boulevard of broken dreams" and "on a steady diet of soda pop and ritalin" and "where have all the riots gone" have political connotations.
OR I COULD NOT.

I really hate the song, probably because it was overplayed. There are bits of AI that I really like, such as Novacaine and Holiday, but most of it bores me. I always took "broken dreams" as hinting at the American Dream but I have no idea why. Either way there's no denying the socio-political undertones of the record, the whole St. Jimmy character is to me a microcosm of how America fails its youth and its youth fails it. I'm seriously surprised it's not unanimously believed to be a political album.

See, I listen to AI in the context of it being a concept album- a pretty loose concept, but one nonetheless.

subtle? Green day is the least subtle band I know.
As a collective of songs, this fails miserably. Most of it is filler. As a concept album, it fails even more so because the music is not cohesive. It does not flow together to form one big piece of music. The story is also completely incoherent and makes absolutely no sense, which is a major point reduction in my book.
The only reason this is a 2 is because this is catchy as fuck, and that is me being generous. This Message Edited On 05.16.09This Message Edited On 05.16.09

You're a sacrificial suicide
Like a dog that's been sodomized
