Corey'd left the band for a bit and Dug was filling in for him for a while. So I wasn't sure if the whole band had reunited or not.

Oh righteo... I wasn't aware of that. But yeah, Corey is back with Will Calhoun on drums, Vernon Reid on guitar & Doug Wimbish on bass.

Never found the brilliance of the record as a whole, but a couple killer songs no doubt. Cult of Personality arguably the best song from the late-80's early-90's era.

Absolutely love 'Open Letter...'.
Desperate People, Middle Man & Which Way to America are almost built to be played live.

Desperate People's riff sounds disconcertingly similar to Back in Black, which is dumb because the band covers Back in Black too, so they basically have two songs that sound alike.

Sitar, rate it

I think it was a 5 once, but I'd probably give it a 4 now. Songwriting is a bit inconsistent and Vernon goes off the reservation sometimes with the avant jazz playing. It's impressive and all, but even I (who abuses the hell out of chromatic runs) can take only so much of chromatic shredding.

There is a similarity to 'Back In Black', but it doesn't cross the line imo.
LOL at Vernon going "off the reservation". Vernon wouldn't be Vernon if that didn't happen.

The end of the riff, that ascending two-note bit, is one of the most recognizable parts of a riff in history (I think) so it's hard not to be immediately reminded of Back in Black.
And yeah, Vernon wouldn't be Vernon if he didn't play free jazz, but sometimes I just want a smooth jazz solo, y'know? Something with melody. *Sigh*
