I love the new album. I honestly think it's on par with this or Cork Tree, although Infinity On High remains their crowning achievement

alright done, some stinkies but nothing outright terrible. the penultimate could've been on Folie a Deux meaning it's def the best here. closer was pr good too, just a bit repetitive towards the end. beyond that, there was nothing amazing, but def a few enjoyable hooks here and there
solid 3/5 nothing more, nothing less

I am digging the new one. Definitely better than SR&R, AB/AP, Mania ... still think everything pre-hiatus is probably stronger, but there is opportunity to grow!
Currently gunna give a generous 3.5 and see where things end up.

It's objectively a 3.5, a 4 for FOB fans, and a 4.5 for FOB stans. ;-)

Last of the Real Ones was a cool song… everything else, nope.
The fact that this the new one is their best since folie is a big win and surprise in my book.
@sowing idk.. I’d consider myself an FOB stan but 4.5 feels like a stretch on initial listens!

It's a 4 or a 4.5. Might settle on a 4 eventually but right now I've got to ride the hype wave. I enjoyed every single song and at least 3-4 of them felt like they would have been as good as the top 3-4 songs on Folie. Maybe it's just me, but this is a huge return to form (and the second big one in 2 weeks after M83's latest)

Their small chicago show a month or so back felt like a huge return to form concert too. Really excited with how the album panned out. Lead single is still my favorite so far, but didn’t find any full duds yet (if we exclude interludes…)

Agreed that the lead single is probably still the best, although Heaven, Iowa gives it a run for its money. I actually found the Ethan Hawke interlude to be really good.

y'all sleeping on Fake Out that's one of Patrick's best hooks in forever
Ten Years is also phenomenal

I'm not sleeping on any part of the new album. It's honestly just a slight cut below Folie/Infinity/Cork; it's more than just a comeback because it comes very close to setting a new standard for the band.
