"Btw... On eyes to see, ears to hear .... The riff at 1:55 to 2:25 might be the most evil and m/ sounding riff ever!!! Listen and tell me it isnt!"
idk, i think its actually one of the less evil riffs on this album. just goes to show how different people can interpret music though.

Covenant and Altars are still the best albums ever tbh.

Morbid has, and always will be, Trey's child. He's just as much to blame for Illud as Vincent.
|
| |
The albums with the most Vinfluence (this and Illud) are definitely their weakest but I actually dig his vocals quite a lot. Trey was the better lyricist though in my opinion as well.
|
| |
covenant is their best and their last album worth listening to tbh

Disagree hard, Formulas rules for sure. Entangled is a cool live album, great solos as usual even if it has the Domination era vox from Vincent. Gateways is basically a better version of this. Heretic is way underrated, some of the interludes are boring and there's some production issues, but still a very solid album.

Never cared for heretic tbh but I agree that Formulas rules. I think this has a slight edge over Gateways tho.
|
| |
In my opinion Gateways is definitely the superior album. Heretic is a much better album than the Sput rating would indicate even if it's not a classic by any means. First half is great, there's just too much filler as the album goes on and the drums are a bit flat in terms of production.

Might have to spin Heretic again. It's been years since I heard that album. But the main reason I'd put this over Gateways is mostly due to Trey's guitar work. The solos on Inquisition, Slime, and Dawn of the Angry are insanely good.

| |
Formulas and Gateways definitely rule hard. Although the soloing on Gateways is better than this imo. Formulas is such an intense record, love it.

I also really like Heretic, even with the wired guitar sound. Sure it has fillers but also killer songs (Curse the Flesh, Praise the Strength).
|
| |
I think the guitar sound is really cool. Big departure from what you'd expect based on everything from Blessed onward, but that's not a bad thing. It's chaotic and very alive, in my opinion.
|
| |
Perhaps but they both utilize more mid pace riffing and atmosphere. Much easier to draw parallels between this and Gateways than this and Formulas, for example, but fair point that that doesn't necessarily mean the quick comparison I drew earlier can be fully made.
|
| |
Yeah I mean I've agreed with that from the start even if it wasn't articulated in exactly the same way.
