those four do seem popular πŸ₯°

And yes, if anyone will love these guys it’ll be someone called Mom (my mum does!… although she likes the metal stuff the most prolly, lol)

I'm checking the first one first and this new singer is a lot smoother and less emotive/dramatic. Definitely not as strong as the Anneke era but I like it.

Yeah the first one + preceding demos are alright. All the Silje albums are at least decent - West Pole gets a bum deal for combining their best writing with their absolute worst in fairly even measure, other two are solid

yes, definitely agree with this (it’s up there with some of the Anneke material, for me)

After jamming this and Mandylion front to back I'm convinced the former is the better album.

Or at least my favorite of the two, y'know.

Nighttime Birds is The Gathering's sexyest song. The rhythm section + the keyboards on this one are so "moist"...

Thanks to the comments for this album, I discovered the Slowdive and Dead Can Dance covers only 10 minutes ago...

What an absolutely spectacularly wholesome and incredible album πŸ₯°

Remains a strong second place of this holds up, but honestly I should stop wilfully ranking great things against other great things

Yes so very true! There's magic on this πŸ’•

It's so nice to put things in their proper order though, even if it's like having a favourite child in a way sometimes...

He probably listened and was overwhelmed by the awesomeness to the point it was impossible to even consider using a keyboard in that moment. Likely still just sat there, paralysed by wholesome enchantment and wonder

understandable really

^ nah, I was just being lazy and didn't rate it yet πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Fantastic stuff though, might be even better than Mandylion. I'm so glad I finally checked these guys out, even though I know most of their later work isn't in this style

+1 for those DCD and Slowdive covers. Both lovely takes, both opened exactly the right doors to me at the times I most needed them

Those covers may have opened doors to The Gathering themselves and showed them they were able to strip down their sound.
